PDF version
Vegetable Contact Agar is a complex medium for the cultivation and isolation of fastidious bacteria, yeast and molds. The medium can be incubated under aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The formulation of this medium follows the recommendations of the current European Pharmacopoeia (EP) and the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP), but contains peptones of non-animal origin instead of casein peptones.
Vegetable contact agar is used for the determination of the total viable count of surfaces, personnel and textiles in isolators and clean rooms (ICR) as well as for active air sampling. The exclusive use of raw materials of non-animal origin allows the elimination of a potential contamination risk with TSE/BSE transmitting agents.
